Leg warmers.
Leg warmers are coverings for the lower legs, similar to socks but thicker and generally footless. Leg warmers were originally dancewear worn by ballet and other classic dancers. Used during the first parts of class or rehearsal, leg warmers help the muscles and tendons in calf and ankle warm up until they are sufficiently loosened from stretching, particularly in cold environments. Using leg warmers is believed to prevent muscle and ligament strains due to over-exercising cold legs. They are also used to keep dancers' leg muscles warm between periods of activity.
