Two types of shoes are worn in Irish dancing: hard shoes, called jig or heavy shoes, and soft shoes, which are also called pumps or gellies. The hard shoe is similar to tap shoes, except that the tips and heels are made of fiberglass, instead of metal, and are significantly bulkier. The first hard shoes had wooden or leather taps with metal nails. Later the taps and heels were changed into resin or fiberglass to reduce the weight and to increase the footwork sounds. The soft shoes, which can also be called pumps, resembles a ballet shoe minus the hard toe and the ribbons for laces. Soft shoes are only worn by girls while boys wear a black leather shoe which resembles a black jazz shoe with a hard heel. Boys soft-shoe dancing features audible heel clicks.

The shoe offers an excellent combination of flexibility and support.The Super Flexi is made from superior leather which is used in both the uppers and super-flexi sole. A very popular shoe amongst dancers of all levels from beginners to world champions.

The Superflexi has a U-shaped heel stiffener which dramatically reduces any possibility of blisters when first worn, allowing you to break in your shoes without any discomfort!

The Superflexi also has a padded insole to help absorb impact shock when dancing, as well as a padded strap with a redesigned buckle for easier opening and closing.

Ideal for dancers who have no time to break in shoes and who want to get straight on to their toes!The Ultra flexi has the same features as our Superflexi model; U-Shaped heel stiffener which dramatically reduces the possibility of blisters when worn new, a padded insole to reduce impact shock when dancing and a lined strap with redesigned buckles for easier opening and closing.

Please note that these shoes are not suitable for very young dancers or dancers with weak arches as they are designed to be extremely flexible. In these instances we would advise you go for the Superflexi jig shoe which offers more support.
